What training methods do you use?

Harry uses positive reinforcement-based methods — rewarding the behaviors you want to see more of rather than punishing the ones you don't. This approach is backed by modern animal behavior science and is both effective and humane. Harry is Fear Free certified and a member of the APDT.

Question 2

What age does my dog need to be to start training?

Accepted Answer

Dogs of any age can be trained. Puppies as young as 8 weeks can begin basic foundation work, and older dogs absolutely learn new behaviors — it may just take a little more patience and consistency. There is no such thing as a dog that is too old to train.

Question 3

What if my dog is reactive or aggressive toward other dogs or people?

Reactivity and aggression are areas Harry has extensive experience with. These behaviors require a careful, structured approach and should never be rushed. During your free consultation, Harry will assess whether in-home training is the right fit or whether a referral to a veterinary behaviorist is the better first step.

How is in-home training different from a board-and-train facility?

With in-home training, your dog stays in the environment where the behavior actually needs to change — your home, your yard, your neighborhood. Behaviors learned at an outside facility don't always transfer back home. In-home training also keeps your dog's routine consistent, reduces stress, and keeps you involved so you know exactly what to do when Harry isn't there.

How many sessions will my dog need?

It depends on your dog's age, temperament, and the behaviors you want to address. Most dogs show meaningful improvement within 4–6 sessions. After the first session, Harry will give you a clear, honest assessment of what to expect and how long it will realistically take.

Question 6

Do I need to be home during the sessions?

Accepted Answer

For Walk and Train sessions, you don't need to be present for the full session — Harry works directly with your dog and then coaches you during the final portion. For One-on-One Training and the Home Success Program, your involvement throughout the session is encouraged because the goal is to teach you the techniques so you can reinforce them every day.

My dog pulls really hard on the leash. Can Walk and Train help?

Yes — loose-leash walking is one of the most common issues Harry works on. Walk and Train sessions take place right in your neighborhood so your dog learns to walk calmly in the exact environment where the pulling happens. Most clients see a noticeable difference within the first few sessions.

Do you travel to my location?

Accepted Answer

Yes — all sessions take place at your home, in your neighborhood, or wherever the target behavior occurs. Harry serves all of Monmouth County, NJ. If you're just outside the service area, reach out and Harry will let you know if it's workable.

Question 9

What should I do between sessions to help my dog progress?

Accepted Answer

Consistency between sessions is one of the biggest factors in how quickly your dog improves. Harry provides clear homework after every session — short daily practice exercises that fit into your normal routine. You don't need to spend hours training; even 5–10 minutes a day makes a significant difference.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes — every new client starts with a free phone or video consultation. Harry will ask about your dog, your goals, and your daily routine to figure out which program makes the most sense before you commit to anything.

What is your cancellation policy?

Accepted Answer

Life happens — Harry just asks for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a late cancellation fee.

Do you offer packages or multi-session discounts?

Yes. Walk and Train offers weekly subscription options (2x or 3x per week) at a reduced per-session rate. Ask Harry about package options for One-on-One Training and the Home Success Program during your free consultation.
